By choosing a CAMTC Certified Massage Professional, you know that he or she has met the requisite standards of preparation and education to merit their designation. In addition, CAMTC Certified Massage Professionals undergo extensive background checks, fingerprinting and other qualifying criteria. CAMTC can investigate complaints made against certified massage professionals and take action when appropriate.
It's easy to put trust in those people who put themselves out on the market as professionals. There are a number of state licensing boards that do the work for consumers, so you don't have to research whether your contractor, hair stylist, mechanic, massage therapist, etc. are licensed and/or certified in his/her craft. For instance, massage therapists are verified through the California Massage Therapy Council (CAMTC). Click the link to verify me: CAMTC # 46610
The CAMTC verifies that a massage therapist finished a certificate program and met the required number of academic and clinical (hands on experience) hours mandated by the state of California.
During this process the person applying for certification will provide the following:
Proof of academic transcripts directly from the school
Pass a background check
Pass a board approved massage therapy exam
Fill out the certification application
Pay the application fee every two years and reapply every two years
Proof of professional liability insurance
After everything is submitted the council will review the application and provide an accepted applicant with a certificate. This certificate provides proof of legitimacy to work as a massage therapist in the state of California.
Every two years I have to reapply and pay the application fee in order to provide safe, legitimate massage. You will see my certificate in my massage room.
